I was just thinking. . .

I am very happily married to my best friend, Josh since August 2004. We had our first baby girl, Allie this past August and are loving out new role as mom and dad. Josh is currently working at NBBC as well as heading up the youth group at our church. God has shown himself in great and mighty ways to us and we are excited about the work he is doing in both of our lives.

Working Girl

Well, it's Saturday and I am happy to announce that I (and my husband) now have a totally cleaned out and organized apartment!! The last two days, were long, hard work. . . (and having a belly in the way did not add to my agility or coordination). Who would have known we had so much junk in our little apt! We hauled out bags and bags of trash and plenty of boxes for garage sale items. We went through every nook and cranny (in which we found stuff we had been looking for, but never could seem to fine), and cleaned it! IT FEELS SO GOOD!! Our next project is installing new carpet and then painting - hopefully sooner than later!

Now that I have entered my third trimester of pregnancy, I feel myself beginning to lose a little of the spunk and energy I had during the second one. Obviously this is normal, and from what I hear, it's not going to get any better these next couple months. However, I choose to remain optomistic and enjoy each stage of my pregnancy. . . Last night I just sat in amazement as the baby pushed, kicked and rolled all over, I could feel her elbow poking me and moving back and forth from side to side. I still haven't totally gotten over the fact that there is a little baby inside of me. I am counting the days until I can hold her and see what she looks like =)

BTW did any of you moms go to a childbirth class? Just wondering if it helped alot, or if it is somthing you would recommend . . . or if you could do with out it. . .

Hi Sarah. I don't think we've ever met, because I moved away from N-land in 2002. But, I grew up there; I was born in Iron Mt! (I'm finally able to admit it.)

Anyways, Chris & I didn't go to a full childbirth class because we were busy moving (don't ever move 8 months prego if you can help it), but we did get a video, which helped a little. I think it's just helpful to know more about the whole thing; sometimes the unknown is more scary about the real deal.

How fun to be having a girl! Not that boys aren't fun. My little guy looked pretty cute in his Superman jammies tonight. Hope everything goes well.

Blessings - Katie Bruno

Sarah - We did not do a birthing class either. Seemed like a waste of 75 bucks to us, and from what we heard. We did get a tour of the hospital though which was helpful. Julie Osborne let us borrow some tapes called "Labor of Love" which was pretty good. You may be able to get some from your local library. I'd recommend something along those lines, b/c I think the mother is busy reading all she can about labor and delivery, and feel a connection to the baby, but it helps the dad to prepare since he hasn't been reading as much. Wow - sorry for this long comment!

Well, Sarah glad to hear I'm not the only one exhausted in this final trimester. We didn't do the childbirth classes. I have watched several videos. I'll have to wait 4 1/2 weeks to tell you whether I wish I had or not! Hang in there! Glad to hear that things are going smoothly! It won't be long and we will each be enjoying our little girls!

We tried, but couldn't get in and I guess I have to say I'm glad. The girl on the phone said if we took a hospital tour it would be the most helpful since we couldn't take the class. Well, we did our hospital tour last week and I have to say that if that was the highlight...I'm glad I didn't waste my time or money!! We are in a line of people to check out a video called "Having your Baby" from our library; the synopsis looks good with a walk through the 3 main stages of labor, but I guess I am thinking that every woman is so different anyway that what is the point of someone telling me what to expect? Hmm. We have a midwife at our church that I'll be calling to see if she can give us a mini-session on preparation and such. (sorry this is so long...)

Hi Sarah-

I met you a long time ago because of Katie Tice. I just wanted to say hi, and congrats on getting married and having a baby. I hope that everything is going well for you. I seem to remember that you were worried about being able to have a baby, so I am super excited that you are going to have one!!! Good luck with everything. And from what I have heard, it helps to take a childbirth class.

Hi Sarah! We have met before, but you probably don't remember me. I'm checking out Northland blogs (I graduated in '01). My husband and I didn't go to classes-- in fact, there came a point in the pregnancy that I didn't want to read anything about childbirth b/c it just upset me :) (yes, I am a wimp). Then-- my doctor informed me that I would need a C-Section (nothing to be feared) -- so the birthing classes definately seemed pointless. However, I DID go into labor 3 days before my scheduled C-section, and I wish I would have been a little more prepared mentally for the whole thing. I still had the c-sec, but now that we are on baby #2, I am planning on entering the situation a little more educated. The comments suggesting that you get a video sounds like a good idea-- not to mention a little more convenient. Well-- there you have it :) Having a baby is soooooo wonderful! Enjoy every precious moment.

Thanks everyone for all the input, I'm thinking a video sounds like a good idea! And lots of reading - although, Leah I'm kind of with you on not really wanting to think about the whole birth thing until I have to - but I guess I need to be prepared =).

Sarah, I was advised against spending the money on a birth class, since each and every birth experience is different anyway. You can get the basics by reading, researching the internet, and asking your doctor questions. Our son will be arriving in about two weeks, so I'll tell you how it goes! :)
